Wasteland is the original, world-famous outfitter of style renegades, rock royalty and anyone whose fashion sense both creates and defies trends.
From humble beginnings as a tiny vintage shop in Berkeley, Wasteland has become a four-store style empire, and now online at Thewasteland.com
Every day, hundreds of fashion-hungry souls make the pilgrimage to our fashion meccas in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Studio City to sell their goods and score sartorial steals. We hand pick every designer and vintage piece, and seek out new independent collections that express our spirit.
As a result, Wasteland is always a reflection of the moment -- art, music, history and the now.
Back in the days of mods and deathrockers, Joe Swinney and Cheryl Cohen met and fell in love to a soundtrack of U2, New Order, Nirvana and the Psychedelic Furs. The year was 1985, and the backdrop was Berkeley, California. With an abundance of epic taste and some borrowed cash, Joe and Cheryl hatched a plan to open a vintage clothing store. Not a funky vintage shop –but instead a perfectly curated style haven that offered a fashion collection of authenticity and self-expression. A store that inspired customers to create a new one-of-a-kind look, every time they shopped. And it worked. It worked so well that over the years Details, Vogue, Rolling Stone, Nylon and many others have all sung Wasteland’s praises as a unique treasure trove of contemporary, vintage and designer fashion. The rest is history.
